Heineken, New Era, & Cam Kirk presents: Young Lyxx and Friends live at the New Era Store. In celebration of the release of his new album Happy to be Here, Young Lyxx headlined a show in Atlanta at the world famous New Era Fitted Caps Flagship Store. The show featured special invited performers such as Donny Goines, Go Dreamer of Hollyweerd, K Camp, Elz Jenkins, REi, Blair Maxxxberry and more.

2011 A3C Hip-Hop Festival

The 2011 was a tremendous year for the A3C Hip-Hop Festival. 2011 marked the 7th year of the festival, and a year that saw 50% growth across the board. After 7 years it is safe to say that A3C is one of the largest hip-hop festivals and gatherings in the US. Over 15K attended A3C in 2011, including many from out of GA.

There were over 200 artists/DJ who performed at A3C, including: Big Daddy Kane, Big KRIT, Freddie Gibbs, Random Axe, Freeway, Dead Prez, M.O.P, Homeboy Sandman, Aleon Craft, Pill, XV, Fashawn, Action Bronson, Smoke DZA, Saigon, Elzhi, 9th Wonder…and MANY more.

Mike Walbert, of SMKA, is a partner in A3C and the artist director. It his responsibility to book talent and work with different organizations, companies and media outlets to curate, and present, that talent at A3C.

SMKA in 2010 [Highlights]

I wanted to write a post that included some SMKA highlights from 2010. It is fun to look back over a year’s work and see how far we have come from Jan 1st, 2010. Anyhow, here are a few things that we did over the past year. I didn’t want to get into great details about press we got, or all of the projects or artists we worked with…instead, here are just a few things that if you missed, you should check out. Overall, we had a great year, and are excited about things to come in 2011.

The first stop of the Atlanta Stargazing Tour presented by SMKA & Whynatte was amazing! 300+ people packed into the East Side Lounge to catch Aleon Craft, FKi, Niko Villamor, Richelle L. Brown & Alien Warr take off. The energy in the room was enormous all night long and peeked during Alien Warr’s 45 minute drum performance w/ DJ Dibiase at 1am. The venue reached capacity at 12am while a crowd began forming outside. East side Lounge was the first of 6 events in the Atlanta Stargazing Tour, and it’s only going to get bigger. The next stop on the Atlanta Stargazing Tour is the Midtown Tavern on July 17th with performances from: Weapons of Audio, Aleon Craft & The Space Cadets, Smitty & The Spare Change, theDOLLDAZE, Alexandrea Lushington & Alien WARR!

East Side Lounge: Aleon Craft & The Space Cadets (Craft’s band) performed many songs of his upcoming project titled, Aleon Craft: The Stargazing Soundtrack hosted by Mick Boogie & Terry Urban. He started his set with the intro, off the project, and first leak “Stargazing,” and ended with the always crowd pleasing, “Donkey Kong.” Aleon Craft: The Stargazing Soundtrack will be out in early August.

SMKA’s The 808 Experiment: Vol. 2 Release Party Recap VIDEO (via The Smoking Section)

On Jan 22, 2010, Atlanta celebrated the release of SMKA’s The 808 Experiment: Vol 2. From 6-9pm artists, fans and media packed in WISH for interviews, a photo shoot and free copy of The 808 Experiment: Vol 2. Then everyone migrated next door to the Star Bar for a night of cheap drinks and great performances. The venue was at capacity all night long with a 30 minute line topping 50 people waiting to get in. DJ Sol Messiah and Terry Urban played musical DJs throughout the night and keep the party going till 3am. However, the highlights of the night were the unbelievable performances put on by the artists. There were 13 performances including Nappy Roots, Yelawolf, FKi, Tom P, Hollyweerd, Aleon Craft, Grip Plyaz… and a special surprise performance from Pill. All the artists performed their song off the 808 Experiment: Vol 2, with a few surprises thrown in the mix. The night was capped off by an improvised set by Terry Urban, Alien the Drummer and Parker Smith on guitar. We had an amazingly talented band behind the artists, which resulted in one of the best hip-hop shows the city of Atlanta has ever seen. If you don’t believe me, ask someone who was there.
