“On August 27, 1990 LL Cool J teamed up with legendary producer Marley Marl to create one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time, Mama Said Knock You Out. “Don’t call it a comeback!” 20 years later, we here at KevinNottingham.com have gathered producers and emcees from all over the globe to remix a classic.

It all started 8 months ago with a weekly remix contest challenging producers to flip the original samples Marley Marl used to create the production for the album. 15 weeks later, the winning beats were chosen and the quest to find the right emcees to hop on these joints began.

After 8 months of hard work, I believe we have an album that greatly pays tribute to the original. Special thanks goes out to DJ Blacquestarr, DJ Grain, and Thomas (of KN.com) for helping with the contest. Thank you also to all the producers and emcees involved in this project… job well done. Last but not least, thanks to LL Cool J and Marley Marl for laying the blueprint and providing the inspiration for making this remix album possible.”

Aleon Craft – The Stargazing Soundtrack [mixtape]

SMKA and Aleon Craft have been working on a studio album titled, “The Solar-Hop Chronicles” for over a year…but it’s still a work in progress. We believe something special happens when one producer (ex. 808 Blake of SMKA) and one artist (ex. Aleon Craft) work together for a long period of time to create music, develop a connection and grow together. It is rare in hip-hop these days…but 808 Blake and Craft have been working together for close to 2 years. We call the music “Solar-Hop,” which is a blend of spacey southern hip-hop and soulful funk. This project is called The Stargazing Soundtrack, hosted by Mick Boogie & Terry Urban. The project will be accompanied by a short documentary of Aleon Craft’s performances during The Atlanta Stargazing Tour presented by SMKA & Whynatte (July 1st – Sept 9th), coming soon!

The Stargazing Soundtrack features appearances from a healthy dose of Decatur rappers & friends: Nappy Roots, Hollyweerd, Mikkey Halsted, Bobby Creekwater, Playboy Tre, Grip Plyaz, Young Scolla, Jarren Benton, Gripplyaz, Tom P, C#Sharp and additional production from Sol Messiah, Doe & Roundtable Kings.

About The Stargazing Soundtrack

SMKA and Craft have been working on an album titled, “The Solar-Hop Chronicles” for over a year now, but it’s still a work in progress. This summer SMKA & Aleon Craft, with the help of Mick Boogie & Terry Urban, are releasing The Stargazing Soundtrack to give fans a small glimpse at what’s to come. The Stargazing Soundtrack is comprised of songs, primarily produced by SMKA, that Aleon Craft will be performing during the Atlanta Stargazing Tour this summer. We are filming a short documentary of Aleon Craft’s performances @ the 6 shows on the Atlanta Stargazing Tour, which will accompany the project.

Ghana-born, ATL-based duo (and exclusive freestyle series contributors) The Canz have hooked up with Mick Boogie, Terry Urban and DJBooth.net to bring fans Life After Graduation, a concept mixtape on which brothers Prominent and Foster pay tribute to two of their musical idols. Inspired by Biggie and Kanye West‘s classic full-lengths, Life After Death and Graduation, the project features 10 brand new freestyles over classic beats from cuts by the aforementioned artists. Included is Booth-premiered leak “World Famous.” a revamp of 808s and Heartbreak track “Amazin’.” Joining The Canz on Life After Graduation are Booth-approved guest emcees Jarren Benton, JD Era and Aleon Craft, along with up-and-coming singer Danay Mariney.
