DJbooth.net Premiere: Aleon Craft w/ Girls – "Carolina (Speed of Sound)" (Solar-Hop Remix) l CRAFT SINGLES (july 19th)

The last leak before CRAFT SINGLES drops on Tuesday (July 19th).

Premiered on DJbooth.net (DL / Listen / COMMENT)

“As we all predicted, Aleon Craft’s newest release is an ode to the powers of Patron that sounds like is came straight out of a European club. No wait, I’m sorry, that’s what everyone else is doing. Never happy unless he’s swimming against the current, new school ATlien and DJBooth Freestyle alum Aleon Craft is back with another leak and, much like his last leaks Don’t Gotta Work It Out and Broken Paradise, new premiere Carolina (Speed of Sound) draws its inspiration from a very unusual source – Pitchfork darlings and indie rock staples Girls. This time around production crew SMKA takes the original, druggy haze of the Girls’ Carolina and adds some bounce via uptempo percussion (call it a Solar-Hop Remix), giving Aleon the room to rhyme about both his insistence on maintaining an unconventional style and the simple pleasures in life; like, say, perfectly round booties. If this gets you in the mood for more “don’t bend the rules, break them” hip-hop be sure to cop Aleon’s hilariously titled new mixtape, Craft Singles, when it drops this Tuesday, July 19.” – DJbooth.net

K. Sparks – "Wondering" (Prod. SMKA) l The Report

K.Sparks is becoming a regular collaborator with SMKA, and if you listen to this song…or his track on The 808 Experiment: Vol 3, you will know why. Simply put, K.Sparks is a really really dope MC.

SMKA x DJbooth.net Present The Report (sponsored by Beat Thang)

DL/Listen: K. Sparks – “Wondering” (Prod. SMKA)

When it comes to hip-hop, rappers search far and wide for the right producer to work with. It’s like finding the right barber. Some give a really good cut but don’t say a word, others are your instantly your best friend but ruin your hair. Then you have a perfect barber: great quality, good customer service, always comes through and might even be a little overlooked. Well I’m guessing Booth favorite K. Sparks would agree that ATL beatmakers SMKA are in that last, rare category. It seems like every project the production team is behind they’re always on point and the Beat Thang-sponsored The Report is no different. Today’s feature, Wondering, is one of the choice cuts (pun intended) off the EP, complete with funky and space-aged production that gets your head nodding, although it’s Sparks’ flow gives that will send listeners to the chiropractor after a head-nodding overdose. If you were wondering whether or not you should download The Report, you should. So get to it right now, we promise it will leave you feeling good – kind of like a fresh new haircut. – DJBooth.net

Goines – "Runnin" (Prod. SMKA) l Something to Lose (June 29th)

Goines is quickly becoming an SMKA favorite. We linked up with Goines on his last mixtape and have been ridding with him ever since. He is one of the few MCs I know that consistently makes REALLY good music. Rarely does he let his fans down on a track.

Mixtape: Something to Lose (JUNE 29th)

(leak off Something to Lose)
DL: Goines – “Runnin” (Prod. SMKA)

Listen to Goines on The 808 Experiment: Vol 3

“SOMETHING TO LOSE is my explaination of, whether to agree or disagree, today’s youth….

exposing, in my opinion, many of the reasons why they are so rebellious, seemingly dont care, or still experiencing an increasing rate of continued genocide, suicide, etc……

how something so impressionable, so innocent, so deserving…yet so neglected, so misguided, and ill-informed can not only adapt to any situation. yet teach itself how to overcome build and pass on such groupthinking eventhough they were never given anything in the first place…

and being that hiphop music is the voice of the future… i think today, more than ever, its more of a mother and father to those without than their physical representaion of that. these kids “big brothers” are the people they see and immulate everyday on tv or internet because the real ones neglect to wanna handle that responsibility.. so in turn this is their culture, their legacy.” – Goines

Vonnegutt ft. Aleon Craft, Cutty Cartel and STS – "What A Job"

Kyle Lucas links up with Aleon Craft, Cutty Cartel and STS for this smooth southern joint. Enjoy!

DL/LISTEN: “What a Job”

As those who have been paying attention to the Booth lately already know, hard-to-define crew Vonnegutt have been prepping to release their paradoxically titled $Free.99 project for a little while now (see previous release Find Your Love), and now that the big day has finally arrived they’re celebrating with new single What a Job. And if you haven’t been paying attention, consider this a dose of musical Riddlin. Produced by the headliners themselves along with frequent beat making partner Simon Illa, What a Job rides along on a characteristically rock driven foundation, rolling on a rhythm guitar line and live percussion. It’s the perfect backdrop for Vonnegutt frontman Kyle Lucas, along with rhyme compatriots Cutty Cartel, Aleon Craft and STS, to let us know just how much they love their no-so-ordinary professions. From top to bottom this is the work of some fearlessly unique artists – now it’s our job to give them some feedback in the comments below. Those digging What a Job’s feel good vibe will find plenty more to love on $Free.99, available right now via www.vonnegutt.com.
