In July of 2010 Freddie Gibbs hit the Windy City as a headliner of this year’s edition of the Pitchfork Music Festival. Closing down the Balance Stage, Gibbs performed in front of 30,000 people as he brought the gritty streets of Gary, Indiana to Chicago’s Union Park. Before his Pitchfork performance, Freddie Gibbs hosted RubyHornet’s monthly Digital Freshness party at Beauty and hit SoundScape Studio for the second edition of the LRG and Closed Sessions collaborative project. Freddie Gibbs decided to work with up and comer YP and after a few beats and blunts, “Something New” was born featuring the smooth production of Chicago’s Million $ Mano.

The EP was recorded entirely in Chicago, IL at SoundScape Studios with visiting as well as local artists. Pretty much, when an artist came to Chicago, we brought them to SoundScape, made them comfortable, gave them access to our production catalog and just got out of their way. The EP features artists such as Bun B, Kidz In The Hall, Emilio Rojas, GLC, Truck North, Big Pooh, Skyzoo, Rhymefest, Chip Tha Ripper, Hollywood Holt, Million $ Mano, U-N-I, Amanda Diva, Tanya Morgan, Curren$y and more.

I downloaded this gem awhile ago, but just got around to posting it now. Presented and mixed by RTC @ ruby hornet. This is turning into a ruby hornet day… which is not a bad thing!

In The Booth (Volume 2) was mixed by DJ RTC, a prominent member of the Chi-town hip-hop community whose resume includes mixtape work with such acclaimed underground/up-and-coming artists as GLC, Naledge. and QuEST. A skilled DJ with four-plus years of experience under his belt, RTC uses a wide variety of techniques to bridge the gap between different sounds, styles, and genres, “I love blends, and I like to incorporate some juggling, and scratches, and cuts… I take the approach of making a wide variety of songs that were most likely recorded without any connection to each other into something cohesive that flows seamlessly.”
