The Lupe Fiasco x B.o.B tour has come to an end. its been a long but wild month of traveling the country with 10 amazing musicians, family and friends. The sheer fact that i can look back 30 years from now and say i was able to tour with B.o.B and Lupe where literally every single show was sold out is mind-blowing. The energy in the venues was nothing short of epically vibrant. I’ve attended many shows in my life and honestly watchin Lupe perform (and gettin to open with Bobby Ray) was one of the most entertaining shows ive been to.

The icing on the cake was that in the middle of tour B.o.B’s debut album dropped. just being a part of the process of making the album was a wild journey in itself. While being on 2 songs off the album, each was different and amazing to make. Past My Shades was one of 5 or 6 six songs the band did at Grand Hustle Studios last summer. Throw Bob, Kato, Alien and myself in an A Room Studio for a week straight, mix a couple bottles of Jack and some of Mother Earth’s finest and the result is an amazing week. It was here that the magic really began. I felt i was watchin Bob do what he truly wanted to do: work with talented musicians and compile a sonic energy that is unique and definitive.

The other song Letters From Vietnam was a completely different process to record. It began at a rehearsal we had where Bob played some chords and we all jammed to them. Immediately we felt the magic with the song. Each person’s part seemed to fall into place, like 5 people collectively writing a song at the same time. Then Bob further explained the lyrics and idea for the song that he had so far. It began with Bob researching the Vietnam War and some of the bad things that happened. He came across some copies of actual letters from a soldier to his wife back in America. In the end the soldier had written all these letters and got no response until the end of the war his wife’s cousin wrote back to say his wife had gone and married someone else. We then took all of this, went into the A Room at the AMAZING Tree Sound Studios, dimmed the lights, vibed out and the result was the track “Letters from Vietnam”. Every time we perform the song live i think everyone is overcome by the same energy we had in making the song. Truly a touching song for us to perform, due to content and the process of making the record.

All in all, this journey has been like the hot new roller coaster at six flags, on repeat……. I am on a number 1 debut album of someone i consider a brother….. i feel truly blessed.

Next up, much more touring, much more production and hopefully some side projects and features here and there. only time will tell.

Though 7King/SMKA played a very small roll in the album creation. We are very excited to be a part of this album. 7King played guitar on a couple tracks (“Past My Shades” “Letters from Vietnam”) and has been touring with Bobby Ray for over a year now. Congrats to Bob, B-Rich, TJ & Playboy Tre
