Life on the Road w/ B.o.B by 7King (Guitar Player)

(sorry for the delayed post…been out of the US, with no internets in site)

Dear Life,

First, it’s 2am and it was a long walk but God Bless Waffle House…..

Today was our first day off in 2 weeks. Since start of tour I’ve played over 10 (all sold out) shows with Lupe Fiasco, traveled across country and back, played on The Ellen Degeneres show, played at Coachella (one of the largest music festivals in the world), witnessed the release of B.o.B’s second single (in 48 hrs it was #2 overall on iTunes, only behind his first single), and solved the rubik’s over 72 times (1:53 is my PB), all right next to one of the brightest hip hop talents I’ve ever seen. And the most amazing part has been watching how bob handles everything. His whole approach is centered around making fans happy. He doesn’t really care about iTunes sales and whatnot. His joy comes from watching the reactions from the crowd. If a crowd is fun and energetic it’s almost certain that he’s goin crowdsurfing. He really just enjoys positive energy and wants to give it back. He has never turned down a photo or autograph cuz he truly understands the mentality of a fan.

I saw him take a poster of him that someone made for him, took it all around the artists tents at coachella and ask other bands for autographs cuz at the end of the day, HE is a fan too. And that’s his perspective on making music. Making songs that r meant to touch people, not just to make a buck.
Well off to Johnson City, TN….. Yea…. Me either…….

Pray for my neck,
7King

The Adventures of Bobby Ray in stores now!

B.o.B aka Bobby Ray released his debut album today.  He’s been developing his brand and perfecting his craft for years and its great to see good music succeed.  B.o.B has had the twitter world abuzz all day and has the number 1 single in the country right now [Nothin' on You].  You can hear the guitar work of SMKA’s own 7King throughout the project.

Bobby Ray puts his entire spectrum of musical talent on display with this one.  The album ranges from the Southern thump of “Bet I Bust” ft. TI & Playboy Tre to sparse piano arrangement of “Ghost in the Machine” to the heartfelt ballad “Lovelier Than You” and covers every nook & cranny between.  Whether rapping or singing, B.o.B’s penmanship is impeccable.

Send a message to the labels and support good music.  Target has a deluxe edition, but you can find bonus tracks from iTunes, Amazon, and other music retailers.

Since a year ago I have prayed that the Universe would bring musicians in my life who were just as passionate about music as I am…well those prayers were answered which is why I am privileged to be working with awesome musicians like Kyle King (a.k.a 7King), T. Kato, Arielle Simmons, and DeLarry Sanders. Whether on the road on in the studio, the chemistry is divine.” – Bobby Ray Simmons a.k.a B.o.B

Life on the Road w/ B.o.B

A new series from 7King, as he writes about being on tour with one of the fastest rising stars in music, B.o.B….

Dear Life,

So I’ve been on the road with one of Hip Hop’s brightest young stars (B.o.B) for over a year and its been an amazing journey. From driving 17 hours to Austin TX last march for SXSW and obliterating the competition to now, its been like night and day. This tour in particular has been a real blessing. First and foremost, much thanks to Lupe for bringing us. He has been like an older brother to Bob and it extends to the rest of our crew. It is rare for a headliner to give 2 shits about the openers but he always makes sure we have our proper soundchecks, chills with us after shows, and over all just a really humble guy. Oh, did i mention he has one of the top 5 live shows ive ever seen?? REAL TALK……. Ever watched and artist perform and gotten the feeling that you were seeing into his soul?? That is what happens when you watch Lupe. This is gonna be an amazing month in all of our lives. I will have more updates as I find time laying around somewhere in this busy schedule. But all is well so far, been totally KILLING the shows. Especially in NY where we had 3 shows in 3 nights (a couple kids from the third show, who were waiting in line outside 3 hrs before doors, informed us that they had been to all 3 shows just to see us). The coolest part so far was comparing the third show at S.O.B’s Night Club in Lower Manhattan to a show we did there back in September. Simply put: prior to a #2 single (last september) it was a decent show with a decent crowd. Post #2 single (two nights ago) it was a COMPLETELY packed out venue with NY Times, Billboard.com, and MTV all filming; Jay Electronica, KRS-ONE, Tony Yayo, all present and an amazing energy filling the room.

Well off to soundcheck for this show in DC and then on to some other city….. your guess is as good as mine to which city………. Life on the Road…..

7King
