Chicago-based indie record label Closed Sessions has joined forces with NYC-based collective Decon to release Closed Sessions: ATX on March 15, 2011. The compilation features hip hop up-and-comers and veterans alike including appearances from Freddie Gibbs, Aleon Craft, Naledge, GLC, Fashawn, CurT@!N$, Rakaa, The Kid Daytona, and more (complete tracklisting below). Production was provided by DJ Babu, Double O, Mano, DJ Fu (Formerly of The Weathermen) and Tony Baines.
Pre-order the full LP on iTunes:
Recorded in one week’s time in a landmark Austin, Texas mansion, Closed Sessions worked ’round the clock to schedule, host, and record each artist on the album. When all was said and done, twenty-one artists came together on ten tracks by five producers. Through a generous partnership with premier professional audio equipment manufacturer SSL, a full mobile recording studio was set up within the mansion. Artists were encouraged to stop by, listen to production from the various producers, and record on the spot. This made for an electric, creative atmosphere where artists fed off one another to create the best possible song in the allotted time period. In addition to the album, Closed Sessions shot a 20-minute documentary highlighting the week’s events from start to finish. The video will be included as bonus video content for the album.
Closed Sessions: ATX has something to offer hip-hop fans in every corner of the globe. From the hard-hitting, screwed up hooks on ‘Heads of the Heads’ featuring Freddie Gibbs and GLC, to the boom-bap, DJ Babu-produced ‘Theme Music’ with Fashawn, Buff1, and Scheme, the album is an eclectic offering from some of the brightest talent in the industry today.
