[Video] Foreign Exchange On Being Independent
Spotted this video on 2DBz, and really like it. Phonte seems like a really knowledgeable person and has some wise things to say about the music business. He HAS been through a lot, and I’m sure he has seen a lot of bull s&%t. He lays out a nice history of technology. As it seems – at this point – as has been the case in many times over the history of the music business… major labels are behind on tech, which pretty much controls the nature of the music business.
What ya’ll think?

Aint too much to add-onto this, he’s right… if the majors were smart they’d turn into management groups. But then again, with all of these new DIY platforms popping up, an artist might be better with just a booking agent. Who can really say? There’s not an artist in rap who hasn’t had to adjust to the new age and it’s gonna get a lot harder for people to make money in music. I don’t think the new generation even cares about making money more than they do with getting attention. If they’re coming up in a world where they’re not buying it, why would they think about selling it? The music arena has turned into one big trade show and we’ll be lucky to say,”I paid up my rent nigga, HAAAA!”
