I was sitting about three feet to the right during this interview, trying to lay low between all the damn chaos going on across the street @ A3C.

Fayetteville’s own Jermaine Cole exploded on to the scene in 2009 and began climbing your favorite MC’s favorite new MC list. Everybody was surprised by the new kid making waves, his lyrical depth and cadence, and that refreshing sound he brought to the Interwebs and radio this year. In reality, J.Cole has been manhandling the microphone since his mid-teens in North Carolina. He moved to New York to chase his dreams and…the story has been told a million and one times. Only thing different about this story is the dreamer in question is currently on tour with Jay-Z, “30% done” with his new album and living the dream. Clap for him.

We managed to catch up with J Dot for a few brief minutes before he hopped on our A3C Perfect Attendance stage at The Five Spot. We talked about his music making process, influences and where he ranks BP3 in Jay-Z’s catalog.
