A chat with Alex Goose

If you search hard enough, you’re sure to find some creative, undiscovered talent nestled within a city still trying to find its identity amongst the millions of people who have transplanted themselves in Atlanta, GA. That’s what an A&R from New York did when he requested tracks from the Cincinnati-born (now Atlanta resident) Alex Goose. Alex, producer of The Blueprint 3 Outtakes, has been honing his production skills over the years, while taking classes at SCAD Atlanta. Last spring, his hard work paid off when Alex was asked to submit tracks for The Blueprint 3 album. Though none were selected for the project, he’s received enough attention to keep him occupied for at least the next 2 years. XTM caught up with Alex for an in-depth interview of the man behind the music.

XTM: So Alex, how long have you been interested in music production?

Alex Goose: I’ve been making music since I was 13, which was when I first bought turntables. Shortly after learning how to dj, I realized that I wanted to actually produce. But I was only 13, and I definitely couldn’t afford an Akai MPC at that time. So I began making beats on this PC software called Acid Pro. But I wasn’t really satisfied with working on a computer. I picked the craft back up when I was 16, which was when I bought an Ensoniq EPS Sampler. It wasn’t until 2004 that I took production seriously.

XTM: Since 2004, what artists have you been able to work with?

Alex: I’ve only actually worked with artists that are close friends of mine. I’m currently working with Danny, who is a rapper out of South Carolina, and Brittany Bosco, a singer from Savannah, whom both I met at SCAD. It wasn’t until this spring, when the AR reached out to me, that I had the opportunity to work with someone in the industry.

XTM: How did you feel about submitting tracks for The Blueprint 3 project?

Alex: It was kind of crazy at first because it happened so fast. The A&R reached out to me through Danny’s Myspace page after he heard some tracks that I had produced. But I actually submitted tracks for the project twice. The first time I submitted tracks was last September when an A&R hit Danny up for some tracks, and I’m just now hearing back from that submission (laughing).
